ACL Surgery

Maggie went in for her ACL surgery on June 27.  They were going to do her right knee and once she was under, the doctor called and told me her left knee felt worse than her right and asked if her right knee wasn't too invasive, if they could do her left while they were at it.  He said it happens a lot that when one is hurt, they start compensating with the other knee and end up hurting it too.
We figured we might as well.  One (sucky) recovery, one time under anesthesia, and get her all good as new.  Things went well.  they cleaned out the inflammation in her knees and did 2 permanent sutures in her right and 1 temporary suture in her left.  She wasn't a happy camper that night and we could tell she was in a lot of pain since she was panting so heavily.  Made me so sad.
We put a towel under her bum to help her get around without her having to put too much pressure on her legs.  The next day she started putting more and more weight on it.  Within a week she was feeling great and trying to run and was getting up and down the stairs.  We took her to a BBQ on the 4th and we thinking she walked around too much and took a giant step backward.

She's having a hard time on her right leg and it will give out on her quite frequently.  We took her to the vet this past week to get her stitches out and there is some joint fluid still oozing out so I wonder if there is still pressure and she's in pain on that knee.

Mike and Mary got this cute little wagon that we could put her in to go on our picnic.  She was quite the sight and she had people laughing!  We borrowed it so we could take her on little walks around the neighborhood to get her some fresh air.  She got lots of giggles again.

Within the next month or so we're hoping she will be back to normal.  They did x-rays on her hips after surgery and everything looked good and at the last visit, they said her knees are still really tight so we're hoping the hobbling is temporary and she'll continue to get stronger.  She's such a trooper!

She is so cute in the wagon! I love it. Glad to hear she getting better.
